External ID Validation for CRB Route 2

Guidelines for confirming the identity of an applicant in relation to carrying out a CRB check state that should you need to use Route 2, in addition to the required documentation, an external identity validation must be undertaken.

What is ID validation?

External identity validation is a process whereby a third party takes the details of the applicant and provides you with an independent verification of their identity.  This should check a wide range of electronic data sources to assess the “foot print” of the individual which is calculated based on the depth, breadth and quality of the data.  In order to validate the identity, this resulting “foot print” should meet the requirements as set out for Level 2 Remote of HMG’s Minimum Requirements for the Verification of the Identity of Individuals, Version 2.0, January 2003.

Our Solution

At ComplianceAssist we specialise in providing our clients with identity verification solutions. This experience gives us an in depth understanding of how the ID validation process works, putting us in a strong position to help should issues arise. Our CRB Route 2 External ID Validation service is used by a wide range of organisations from across public, private and voluntary sectors.

The service is delivered in partnership with Experian and takes the information you provide regarding the applicant then accesses a wide range of extensive data sources to validate their identity.  You are provided with the required pass or fail result in seconds and a full PDF report is made available for you to save or print as required. This solution is fully compliant with the government's minimum requirement for the verification of the identity of individuals.

We understand that putting in place a new solution can be a little daunting. At ComplianceAssist we run a support line from 8:30am - 5:30pm on working days where our analysts are available to offer you support should any queries or issues arise.

We charge no set-up, on-going maintenance or training fees, you just pay for a package of checks and users and nothing else.

How Many Checks Will I Need?

Initially the CRB stated that they were expecting between 8 and 10 per cent of all applications for a CRB check to follow Route 2.  From our experience we have found the number of validation checks a client needs to undertake varies significantly based on the demographic of the people whose applications they are processing.

With this understanding of volumes we encourage clients not to over commit, but rather start at a lower volume of checks and then take additional checks when required. To ensure this does not result in a you paying more for the external ID validation checks we base the price you pay on your overall annual usage.  Therefore, whether you take a large volume up front or in steps throughout the year the amount you pay will be the same.

Higher Volume Users

Our solution is accessed via a web portal and provides an instant response, but when processing a higher volume of requests even this can become time consuming for your users.  At ComplianceAssist we offer clients the option to integrate to our service giving you the ability to receive an instant response directly into your own systems.

For clients processing in excess of 1,000 checks per annum this is offered at no extra cost.
